Eli Manning, Quarterback, New York Giants

Let’s just start with the obvious: Eli Manning gets credit for being a two-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback even though he was the guy that mostly managed the offense while, while the defense of the New York Giants won both games. He won the MVP award in both Super Bowls, only because they had to give it to somebody, and quarterbacks always get the benefit of the doubt. But Manning still gets treated like football royalty, on account of those two rings, and because his last name means he belongs to football royalty. If his name was “Eli Smith,” we’d probably think of him no differently than a modern day Phil Simms.
