It’s not like the Cleveland Browns had some major salary cap need, forcing them to release cornerback Joe Haden in late August of 2017. The bottom line was, they didn’t feel Haden was worth his $11 million-plus salary cap hit. He’s missed 14 games the last two years and last played a full 16-game season during his rookie year of 2010. The advanced metrics show that Haden was far from the shutdown corner many perceived him to be. The Browns simply chose to move on with a cheaper, comparable player in Jamar Taylor, and Haden quickly signed with the Steelers after his release.
