Honorable Mention: Johnny Manziel (2014 Draft, Pick #22)
“Here’s Johnny!” Johnny Manziel… The perfect guy to kick off this party! Besides the obvious questions regarding his lack of size and arm strength, Manziel also displayed some serious character flaws. Despite a brilliant college career at Texas A&M (including a Heisman Trophy) Manziel’s behavior off the field became a bigger story. Those who are surprised by his transgressions in the NFL, clearly weren’t paying attention to the warning signs. Where do we start…? First, there was an arrest for use of a fake ID. Then the alleged use of a racial slur during a street fight with a 47-year old man. And even when Manziel managed to avoid trouble with law enforcement, there were continued social media spottings and TMZ photos of Manziel partying on nights before practices and big games.
After years of living on the edge, his rockstar lifestyle finally caught up to him. At the conclusion of his rookie season, Manziel was checked into a rehab facility for drug and alcohol addiction. Most recently, Manziel has been the subject of a domestic violence investigation, after he allegedly punched his ex-girlfriend in the head (which ruptured her eardrum). According to the police report, he then threatened to kill her, and himself. Manziel’s NFL career isn’t over yet, but it sure seems to be heading in that direction. Could Have Drafted: Teddy Bridgewater (#32), Derek Carr (#36)
