With the hated Duke University Blue Devils out of the way, thanks to the losses of Christian Laettner, Bobby Hurley, and Grant Hill, it cleared the way for the University of North Carolina Tar Heels — led by guard Donald Williams — to win the 1993 NCAA Tournament. Williams was given the NCAA Basketball Tournament Most Outstanding Player Award, in part because of his 25-point effort in the national championship game against the University of Michigan (comprised of “The Fab Five”). After never playing in the NBA, but playing professional basketball in nine other countries, Williams is currently the head women’s basketball coach at Wakefield High School.
