Warren Sapp was a huge part of the return to prominence of the University of Miami’s football program in the early-to-mid-1990’s. In 1994, he was named a consensus All-American, and won the Bronko Nagurski Trophy (given to the nation’s best defensive player) and Lombardi Award (given to the best college football lineman or linebacker). Entering the 1995 NFL Draft, he was a virtual lock to be selected among the top five picks. But Sapp failed a marijuana test at the NFL scouting combine prior to the draft, which led to him falling down to the 12th pick in the first round on draft day. Of course, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected him, and he went on to have a Hall of Fame career there.
