To this day, George Mason University’s run to the Final Four in 2006 remains one of the greatest “Cinderella” stories in NCAA Tournament history. They become only the second 11th seed in tournament history to reach the Final Four, defeating some of the biggest names in college basketball along the way: Michigan State in the opening round, North Carolina in the Round of 32, Wichita State in the Sweet 16, and then the #1-seeded University of Connecticut in the Elite Eight. The Huskies entered the tournament as the presumptive favorites to win it all, but the Patriots emerged from the game as the biggest storyline in America.
