Talk about mismatches: Santa Clara entered the 1993 NCAA Tournament as the 15th seed, thanks to their mediocre 19-11 regular season record. Conversely, the University of Arizona Wildcats were the #2 seed in that same region, and ranked #5 overall in the country by the Associated Press. But the Wildcats blew a 13-point lead in the second half, and Santa Clara, led by a relatively unknown point guard named Steve Nash, took a 64-61 lead with 8.4 second left in the game. Arizona’s Damon Stoudamire missed a 23-foot jumper as time expired, which would’ve tied the game.
