D.J. Mbenga, Lakers (2009, 2010)
The Lakers have a star studded history of transcendent centers; from George Mikan and Wilt Chamberlain to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Shaquille O’Neal. And of course, D.J. Mbenga! All jokes aside, D.J. was a beloved bench figure for the Lakers’ two title runs, so his camaraderie was a plus. However, he was a complete zero on defense, to the point that most opponents completely ignored his presence on the court and used his defender to double team the Lakers big three (Bryant, Bynum, Gasol).
Due to his (many) shortcomings, D.J. barely left the bench during the postseason, playing just 28 total minutes over the course of two seasons worth of playoff action. He contributed 1 made field goal during the 2009 playoffs and “improved” his total to 2 made field goals during the 2010 playoffs.
