As ace ESPN reporter Brian Windhorst recently characterized the 2016 offseason as “what the hell were we thinking?” Case in point: the contract given to Allen Crabbe of the Portland TrailBlazers. After averaging 10.3 points per game, Crabbe received a four-year, $75 million offer from Brooklyn; because Crabbe was a restricted free agent, Portland matched that contract to keep him around.

The contract became so cumbersome for the TrailBlazers’ salary cap that they had to trade him in another salary dump just one year after signing him to that deal.
