Most people are well aware of the fact that Derrick Thomas was one of the most proficient pass rushers in the history of the NFL, racking up 126.5 career sacks — including a record seven sacks in one game — finishing 16th on the NFL’s all-time list. But his intimidating presence on the field transcended the stat sheet. He was the rock in which head coach Marty Schottenheimber built some of the great Kansas City Chiefs defenses in the 1990’s upon, changing what was previously a losing culture in the team’s locker room.
