On the vaunted defenses of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers under Tony Dungy, John Lynch tends to get overlooked when compared to the stars like Warren Sapp and Derrick Brooks. But Lynch was one of the enforcers in the secondary who would punish receivers and tight ends over the middle, or drop into the box and help out with run support. He was never afraid to use his body as a weapon to destroy offenses. When Lynch signed with the Denver Broncos later in his career, tight end Antonio Gates of the division rival San Diego Chargers once said that he’d tell his quarterbacks that he’s not going to go over certain parts of the field to catch passes, because John Lynch might be there.
