In a 2015 column for The Players Tribune, Bill Romanowski reflected on the maniacal way he played the game by saying: “The way I saw it, the more violence and nastiness I played with out on the field, the more I was feared and hated by opponents — and loved by my coaches, teammates and fans.” His dirty plays, cheap shots, and “crossing the line” antics, combined with continued allegations of taking numerous performance enhancing drugs, made him one of the most feared linebackers in the NFL.
