Early in the 2017 season, given the struggles faced by quarterback Andy Dalton, there was a lot of talk that the Cincinnati Bengals could release him in the offseason, and look to a new direction at quarterback. But the fact of the matter is that Dalton’s cap numbers over the next few years are relatively team-friendly, given the going rate for quarterbacks. So, if backup quarterback A.J. McCarron wants to become a starter somewhere soon, it likely won’t be in Cincinnati. He will be a name that’ll be much-discussed in the 2018 offseason, as a lot of teams believe he’s someone who can effectively manage an offense for them.
