Kirk Cousins, QB, Washington Redskins
Perhaps the most discussed — and mishandled — contract situation of any quarterback in the NFL, the Washington Redskins and Kirk Cousins are on path for an intriguing contract showdown (yet again) this offseason. Washington has used the franchise tag on Cousins for two years in a row now, and that has reportedly rubbed Cousins the wrong way, as he’s been seeking some type of long-term commitment from the team that drafted him. There were reports in the offseason that the Redskins almost traded him to the San Francisco 49ers, especially given that Cousins’ former offensive coordinator — Kyle Shanahan — is now the head coach there. But now that the 49ers have already traded for their quarterback of the future, Jimmy Garoppolo, let’s see if Washington chooses to use the franchise tag on Cousins for the third season in a row.
