Shawn Kemp
The “Reign Man” was a six-time NBA All-Star and a three-time All-NBA Second Team member as a member of the Seattle Supersonics. But after Shawn Kemp’s dispute with the Supersonics, in which he wanted to renegotiate his 1994 contract extension but couldn’t do so until 1997, coupled with his resentment of the team’s acquisition of Jim McIlvaine via seven-year $33.6 million contract, it all went downhill from there. He eventually forced his way out of Seattle, getting traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers, but his love for basketball had vanished. In the lockout shortened season in 1998-1999, Kemp reportedly showed up to the Cavaliers training camp weighing as much as 325lbs. After the Cavaliers traded him to the Portland Trailblazers after the 1999-2000 season, his substance abuse issues were added to the list of problems that badly curtailed the prime of his NBA career.
