When the New England Patriots drafted tight end Aaron Hernandez in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL draft, they knew they were taking a gamble. But nobody saw this coming. In August of 2012, the Patriots signed Hernandez to a five-year contract extension worth a total of $40 million. Come to find out, Hernandez is accused of killing two people in a drive-by shooting a month before he signed the contract. While that case is still to be determined, in 2015, at the age of 25 Hernandez was convicted of killing former friend Odin Lloyd, and sentenced to life in prison.
