After Pervis Ellison led his University of Louisville Cardinals to the 1986 NCAA Championship as a freshman, he was nicknamed “Never Nervous Pervis.” After the Sacramento Kings drafted Ellison with the #1 overall pick in the 1989 NBA Draft, and saw him miss 48 of his first 82 games, teammate Danny Ainge derisively nicknamed him “Out of Service Pervis.” Sacramento traded him to Washington after just one season, but Ellison’s injury problems followed him; he missed over 1/3rd of his games during his second and third season in Washington. Meanwhile, some of the most exciting players of the 1990’s came out of said 1989 draft, including Glen Rice (4th overall), Tim Hardaway (14th overall), and Shawn Kemp (17th overall).
