The author of this article knows next to nothing about tattoos or tattoo culture. American tattooing has often featured designs that are humorous or somewhat low-brow for over a hundred years. So JR Smith wanted a cartoon parodying his life, and Robert Sacre wanted a portrait of one of his heroes. That Snoop portrait is amazingly done by the way, great technique. And this guy’s comment about circus performance? Again, the carnival and the circus have long been linked together in American tattooing.

Tattoos to make it appear as if the circus is in town? What people mutilate themselves in such a fashion? The rush to appear the same seems to be the absurd rallying cry.
