7. Matt Leinart (USC)
Matt Leinart could’ve been the #1 pick in the 2002 NFL Draft if he chose to leave USC early. He was the reigning Heisman Trophy winner and a two-time national champion. When he chose to return to school for his senior year, it was one of the biggest “feel-good” stories out there: a player who valued finishing his four years in school instead of chasing fortune and fame in the NFL. What we didn’t realize was Leinart could chase fortune and fame while still in college, considering he went to school in Los Angeles. His hard-partying ways became the stuff of legends — at one point hooking up with starlets like Britney Spears and Alyssa Milano — even while he had a girlfriend who also happened to be a student at USC. Combined with his good looks and over-confidence as a football player, Leinart went from heroic to hated very quickly. Spoiler Alert: There may (or may not) be another USC quarterback on this list…
