7. LeBron James signs with the Cleveland Cavaliers (2014)
The King returns to Cleveland! Appearing in his fourth consecutive NBA Finals and falling short of a “three-peat” in Miami, LeBron James was still at the peak of his game and playing alongside two of his best friends (Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh). Even after he opted out of his contract with the Miami Heat, it seemed that his return to South Beach was inevitable, as he, Wade, and Bosh maintained total dominance over the Eastern Conference. But as the days went by, whispers emerged that James could possibly return to Cleveland and sign with the Cavaliers, spurning the Heat. Those whispers were eventually confirmed as fact when he revealed, via a first-person essay in Sports Illustrated magazine, that he would be “coming home” to Cleveland. LeBron’s decision to return home paid off, as he and Kyrie Irving brought a title to Cleveland for the first time since 1964.
