11. Kevin Durant signs with the Golden State Warriors (2016)
The prized free agent of the 2016 offseason signs with the team who just finished with the best regular season record in NBA history (73-9). After taking the Warriors to seven games in the 2016 Western Conference Finals, NBA fans and “experts” thought it was a foregone conclusion that Kevin Durant would re-sign with the Oklahoma City Thunder. But Durant shocked the world, announcing on the morning of July 4th, 2016, that he would be signing a two-year deal with the Warriors. Fans will spend the next few months obsessing over why KD left OKC — was it an issue with Westbrook? Does he want to play in a bigger market? Does he want to shoulder less of the workload? And there’s probably at least a handful of crazy conspiracy theories that have yet to surface. Either way, only time will tell if this was the right decision.
